RSPCA Cambridgeshire Mid East Branch

Welcome to the Cambridgeshire Mid East Branch of the RSPCA.

We are one of 130 independent branch charities that also support the local work of the RSPCA’s Inspectors.

The RSPCA Cambridgeshire and Mid East Branch CIO is a separately registered charity although we are supported by and work in partnership with the RSPCA National Society. We are primarily self-funding and the money we spend in our area is raised in our area.

Rex

Dani adopted Rex:

“We adopted Rex in April 2025, and the initial assessment carried out by the RSPCA Cambs Mid East Branch was both accurate and thoughtful. This was especially important for us as a family with two young children, and it gave us confidence that Rex was a suitable and safe match for our home. Like many rescue dogs, Rex did come with some challenges, and we experienced lead reactivity issues in the early days. Addressing this required time, consistency, and commitment on our part, but we never felt alone in the process. Petra was incredibly encouraging and helped alleviate our concerns by offering reassurance and clear guidance on where to find appropriate external support.

By putting in the work and engaging with professional advice, we have been able to support Rex in building confidence and developing positive behaviours. So much so that we are considering adopting another dog. This journey has helped Rex settle into a loving and secure home, while also giving us the confidence to provide him with the stable, happy life he truly deserves.

We would wholeheartedly recommend adoption to anyone considering it. Giving a dog in need a happy home does take effort, patience, and commitment — but it is completely worth it. We are extremely grateful to the RSPCA for their honesty, care, and ongoing support, which made it possible for us to commit fully to Rex and give him the future he deserves.”

Meg

Meg was a grand old lady of 14 years old when her owners signed her to the RSPCA due to personal issues. Meg has a few health issues, she has poor eyesight, she is deaf and her teeth wouldn’t win her any awards for the best doggy smile! After having no luck in securing a home for her, she came to the attention of her present owners who had recently lost their elderly dog and feeling a bit lost without their furry companion. They agreed to foster Meg until her forever home could be found to live out her twilight years.

Well that didn’t quite go to plan! Meg decided that she loved her foster home so much and settled in straight away, she could not put a dainty paw wrong. Her foster parents were equally smitten with her and decided to adopt her permanently. They say that Meg loves people, life, especially food! She is a very sprightly dog who loves her ball, walks on the beach and generally living her best life.

There are a lot of older dogs like Meg who often get overlooked at rescues because of their age. Her new owners have said that now having adopted Meg, they cannot imagine not fostering or adopting an older dog in the future to give them a chance to live out their later years in a home where they get the life they truly deserve.

Rather than having fixed rules, our teams focus on whether you can meet the needs of a specific animal. You’ll also need to meet your legal responsibilities under the Animal Welfare Act, including providing a suitable environment, proper care and veterinary treatment.

Animal welfare is everyone’s welfare

Here at RSPCA Cambridgeshire Mid-East we want to make sure everyone has access to all the educational tools they may need to learn about the struggles our animals go through.

We also want to make sure that access to these tools is free and inclusive to all. Our resources include those for use in schools, at home and through schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh.
